Clear status and setup The settings panel shows the selected source, model status, and local runner state.
Cloud only when selected Apple Translate and BYOK remain available when speed, language coverage, or model quality matters more.

Details for everyday Mac work.

After the core workflow, Tala stays deliberately narrow: short-text translation, visible provider choice, optional history, and a compact menu bar interface.

01

Translate from the menu bar

Keep the translation window close without switching into a large workspace or opening a new browser tab.

02

Run local AI when privacy matters

Use a local Hunyuan translation model so sensitive short text does not need to leave your Mac.

03

Use Apple Translate

For supported languages, Tala integrates with Apple's native translation framework on macOS.

04

Bring your own keys

Add your own API keys for mainstream providers when you want cloud model quality under your account.

05

Choose the right engine

Switch between local AI, Apple Translate, and BYOK providers depending on language, speed, quality, and privacy.

06

Keep history optional

Use optional in-memory history for recent translations without adding product analytics or tracking SDKs.

Privacy-first by design

No Tala translation server sits in the middle.

Local Hunyuan translation runs on your Mac after you install the model. Apple Translate requests are handled by macOS and Apple. BYOK requests go directly to the provider you configure.

No automatic clipboard monitoring Tala does not automatically read or watch your clipboard.
No analytics SDK The app is designed without product analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking SDKs.
Keys stay in Keychain BYOK provider credentials are stored in macOS Keychain on your Mac.

Clear boundaries.

Is Tala fully offline?

Not always. Local Hunyuan mode runs on-device after the model is installed. Apple Translate and BYOK modes may use Apple or the provider you configure.

Does Tala translate documents?

No. Tala is built for short snippets, not bulk document translation, OCR, browser extension workflows, or file conversion.

Does Tala store my API keys?

BYOK keys are stored locally in macOS Keychain and used directly from your Mac for the provider you choose.

Is this a Tencent app?

No. Tala is an independent app by Yixiao Zhang. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to Tencent, Tencent Cloud, or the Hunyuan team.

Fast translation when you need it, provider choice when it matters.
