Tala is a macOS menu bar translator for quick short-text translation. It supports local AI translation, Apple Translate, Hunyuan, and bring-your-own-key translation providers.
Tala is an independent app by Yixiao Zhang. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to Tencent, Tencent Cloud, or the Hunyuan team.
Local Hunyuan translation can run on your Mac after the local model is installed. Apple Translate and BYOK providers may require network access depending on macOS language availability and the provider you choose.
No. We do not operate a Tala translation server. Local Hunyuan translation runs on your Mac. Apple Translate is handled by macOS and Apple. BYOK requests go directly to the provider you configure.
No. Tala uses manual input. If you click the paste button or paste text yourself, that text is placed into the input field for translation.
BYOK API keys are stored in macOS Keychain only after you click Save Provider. We do not receive your API keys.
Hunyuan Local uses an on-device model. The model is downloaded only when you choose to install it, then stored in Tala's Application Support directory inside the app sandbox container.
Translation history is optional. Saved translations are kept in memory only and are cleared when Tala quits. They are not written to disk.
Email the support address above with your macOS version, Tala version, selected translation source, a short description of the issue, and steps needed to reproduce it. Do not include sensitive text unless you choose to share it for troubleshooting.
