This Privacy Policy explains how Tala ("the App") handles information. The App is provided by Yixiao Zhang ("we", "us", or "our").
Tala is designed as a privacy-first translator for macOS. We do not operate a translation server for the App, and we do not collect, sell, rent, share, or use your personal data for advertising or tracking.
Different translation sources handle text differently. Local Hunyuan translation runs on your Mac after you install the local model. Apple Translate requests are handled by macOS and Apple. Bring-your-own-key provider requests are sent directly from your Mac to the provider you configure.
Tala is an independent app by Yixiao Zhang. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to Tencent, Tencent Cloud, or the Hunyuan team. Hunyuan is referenced only as a supported local model/source.
The App does not collect:
The App does not require an account.
Tala does not automatically read or monitor the clipboard. If you use the paste button or paste manually, the pasted text is used only to fill the App's input field.
When you use Hunyuan Local, translation is performed on your Mac through the App's local runner. Your translation text is not sent to our servers.
The local Hunyuan model is downloaded only when you choose to install it. The current model download source is Hugging Face. Hugging Face may receive standard network request information, such as your IP address and request metadata, under its own terms and privacy policy.
When you use Apple Translate, translation is handled by macOS and Apple. Apple may process information according to Apple's own privacy policy and system terms. That processing is controlled by Apple, not by us.
When you use a bring-your-own-key provider, Tala sends the text you choose to translate directly from your Mac to the provider you configure, such as an OpenAI-compatible provider, OpenRouter, Gemini, or another supported service. The provider may process and retain data according to its own terms and privacy policy.
API keys are stored in macOS Keychain only after you save them. We do not receive your API keys.
Tala may offer optional translation history. This preference is remembered, but saved translations are kept in memory only and are cleared when Tala quits. Translation history is not written to disk and is not sent to us.
If you contact us by email, we will receive the email address, message content, and any attachments that you choose to send. We use support communications only to respond to your request, troubleshoot issues, and improve App reliability.
The App itself does not include third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.
If you download or update the App through the Apple App Store, Apple may process information related to downloads, purchases, crash reports, diagnostics, or device security under Apple's own privacy policy and App Store terms. That information is controlled by Apple, not by us.
We do not use your translation text, translation results, API keys, or local history to train machine learning or artificial intelligence models.
Third-party providers you configure may have their own data-use and training policies. Review the policy for each provider before sending sensitive text to that provider.
Because the current version of the App does not collect personal data from the App, we do not retain personal data from the App. Support emails are retained as needed to respond to your request and maintain support records.
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy if the App's features or data practices change. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date on this page.
